2. How to figure amount of stone required:

First determine the size and shape of patio desired. Multiply length by width to determine total square footage.

3. Select flagstone.

4. How to construct your patio:

Lay out size and shape of patio with string line and stakes, then excavate to a 6" depth. Wet or tamp excavated area, then place 3" of AB3 and compact. Broadcast 1" to 1 1/2" of sand and begin laying flagstone by wiggling and tamping each piece in place. Level flagstone by adding or subtracting sand, followed by a few taps with a rubber mallet to insure snugness. Tight joints and large pieces will minimize movement and add to its attractiveness.

5. Finish by sweeping sand into joints and wetting thoroughly.
